DOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN THE FIELD OF FINANCIAL ECONOMICS - PHD BUSINESS ECONOMICS

At the Department of Financial Management, Campus Antwerp (FEB, KU Leuven), we are looking for a motivated, independent, and enthusiastic researcher in the field of financial economics for a four-year research project on climate change, sustainable investing, and wine economics.
Project：
Financial assets are contractual claims to benefits that flow from ownership from income-producing entities. In turn, the owner of real assets has the right to possess and personally enjoy a particular piece of durable physical property that is typically unique (or at least in limited supply and subject to heterogeneity in quality). Ownership also gives the right to contract over the use of this property. This project focuses specifically on the pricing of such real assets, more specifically, wine. This research tackles key research questions, such as the impact of climate change on the cross-section of wine returns. Since vines need five elements to grow(sunlight, temperature, carbon dioxide, water, and nutrients), the effect of weather and climate is very important. However, is this also reflected in expected returns of wine? Second, we tackle demand systems of asset-pricing by introducing holdings of wine investments by (retail) investors. The questions allow us to better understand the dynamics in other asset classes, such as stocks or bonds.
Job description:
-You will follow the doctoral program in Business Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business from KU Leuven.
-You will prepare a doctoral dissertation (Ph.D.) at the Finance research group of KU Leuven, under the supervision of Dr. Gertjan Verdickt, and Dr. Gunther Wuyts.
-You will be able to participate in national and international conferences where you can present your research.
-You are expected to attend, participate in seminars, and willoccasionally be involved in teaching activities, including the supervision of master theses.
Profile：
-You have a master's degree in Business Administration, (Applied) Economic Sciences, Business Engineering, or an equivalent degree with good academic results and master's thesis. Students in the final year may also apply.
-You have a great interest in scientific research and good statistical skills.
-You excel in critically examining scientific literature.
-You are eager to learn and highly motivated to expand your knowledge of financial economics.
-You have good written skills, especially in English.
-Any knowledge of wine (economics) is advantageous.
-You are not afraid to present and discuss research findings in public (e.g. scientific conferences, seminars).
Offer：
We offer employment as a full-time Ph.D. researcher for 1 year (starting October 1st 2022), renewable after positive evaluation.
You will be enrolled in the Ph.D. Program of KU Leuven and you will work as a doctoral student in a stimulating work environment with a high degree of flexibility and autonomy.
